The Cornwall Vein Clinic

State of the Art Treatments

The Cornwall Vein Clinic was established in 2007 to provide access to the latest treatments for venous disease to patients in Cornwall, Devon, and the South West peninsula. We aim to provide a high quality clinical service to all our patients, using state of the art diagnostic and treatment methods to ensure that every patient receives the most appropriate treatment for their individual circumstances.

While patients are able to self-refer for investigation and treatment, we would prefer to work in conjunction with the patients own General Practitioner, and would encourage prospective patients to arrange formal referral through their own doctor. The Cornwall Vein Clinic will keep your GP informed by letter of the outcome of all out-patient consultations and treatments.

Consultant Vascular Surgeon
The Cornwall Vein Clinic was formed by Mr Kenneth R Woodburn MD FRCSG(gen). Mr Woodburn trained as a specialist Vascular Surgeon in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Sydney, and has been an NHS Consultant Vascular Surgeon in Cornwall for more than 10 years. As one of the first surgeons in the UK to introduce endovascular surgery (keyhole arterial surgery) to routine NHS practice, he has been providing an endovascular surgical practice in Cornwall since 1998. In conjunction with his NHS Consultant Vascular Surgical colleagues, Mr Harvey Chant and Mr Graham Riding, he has also provided an endovenous surgical service to the local NHS. Between them they treat over 400 NHS patients per year with VNUS Closure®, endovenous laser therapy and other ambulatory treatments for varicose veins. Mr Woodburn and his colleagues share the desire to provide this "state of the art" service in more efficient and patient-centered surroundings that are available to all patients who are likely to benefit from these treatments. This has led to the creation of the Cornwall Vein Clinic, through which they will be able to provide this new service.

Is vein treatment covered by insurance?
Patients with private health insurance will find that most of their treatment costs are covered in part or in full (depending on their policy terms) by their insurance company. For patients who are paying for their own treatment it is our aim to provide the treatment methods and quality available at the top London private clinics, but at a cost that is significantly lower!

The services of the Cornwall Vein Clinic (including varicose vein injection, radiofrequency ablation, and vein surgery) are also available to patients who are eligible for NHS treatment of their varicose veins through a limited number of “choose and book” slots provided at the Duchy Hospital, Truro. Further “choose and book” appointments may also become available at the Bodmin NHS treatment centre in 2009. Your General practitioner will be able to book you an appointment for NHS treatment using this system.
